Why are Freemasons so secretive?
Freemasonry is not a secret organisation; it is merely an organisation with secrets just like any corporate organisation will have certain secrets they do not share with everyone. Admittedly, Freemasons were guilty of acting secretively in years gone by regarding their Masonic activities. This only served to fuel the conspiracy theories regarding Freemasonry. This unfortunate situation is being actively rectified by openly discussing our activities in public and the media, and hosting open evenings where the public may attend and learn more about Freemasonry.

What will my financial commitments be when I join Freemasonry?
You will be allocated to a Masonic Lodge. The Lodge is governed by the relevant Provincial Grand Lodge and ultimately by the Grand Lodge at national level. Capitation fees are levied by the Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge, and each lodge has to collect fees from their members for the upkeep of the lodge. There will also be a joining fee to pay for the regalia, books and documents to be studied, etc. These fees are reviewed on an annual basis and will be made clear to you in a document on financial obligations at your initial interview.
